Thyroid disorders
Thyroid disease is a medical condition impairing the function of the thyroid. Different thyroid diseases include Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. These diseases have a large range of symptoms and affect all ages.
Thyroid disorders include
  • hyperthyroidism (abnormally increased activity),
  • hypothyroidism (abnormally decreased activity)
  • Thyroiditis, inflammation of the thyroid
  • thyroid nodules, which are generally benign thyroid neoplasms (tumours), but may be thyroid cancers.
All these disorders may give rise to a goiter, that is, an enlarged thyroid.
Common Symptoms of Hypothyroidism
Below are major symptoms associated with hypothyroidism.
  • Weakness
  • Fatigue
  • Weight gain or difficulty losing weight (despite reduced food intake)
  • Coarse, dry hair and dry skin
  • Hair loss
  • Sensitivity to cold
  • Muscle cramps and aches
  • Constipation
  • Depression
  • Irritability
  • Memory loss

  • Decreased libido

Cancer and Ayurved

1)  Cancer classification according to modern medical science.

According to modern medical science cancers are divided into main three types.
(1) Carcinoma
(2) Sarcoma
(3) Leukemia
 (1) Carcinomas – This type of cancer occurs in the epithelium or endothelium of the organ, & can be further understood as
- Squamous cell carcinomas (cancers of throat, mouth, larynx, esophagus etc.)
- Basal cell carcinomas (cancers of the skin of the face.)
- Transitional cell carcinomas (cancers of the urinary bladder, kidney etc.)
- Adeno carcinoma (cancers of stomach, intestine, breast, uterus, prostate, thyroid, liver etc.)
(2) Sarcoma – This type of cancer occurs in the deeper tissues of the body other than epithelium like muscles, bones, cartiledges etc.
Sarcoma occurs in
– Fat cells – Lipo sarcoma
– Fiber cells – Fibro sarcoma
– Smooth muscles – Leiomyo sarcoma
– Big muscles – Rhabdomyosarcoma
– Lymph nodes – lymphoma
(3) Leukemia – This is the cancer occurring in the haemophoetic system, i.e. blood forming system.
Leukemias are classified as
– Acute myeloblastic leukemia (AML)
– Chronic myeloblastic leukemia (CML)
– Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL)
– Chronic lymphoblastic leukemia (CLL)

Chaas
Chaas, a refreshing drink, is basically a diluted, salted yogurt drink. In India, it’s more popularly known as buttermilk. Thick curd or yogurt is beaten and diluted with water to the ratio of 1:2, 1:4 or 1:6 (as per need / disease) (for this consult Ayurveda Doctor) i.e. for 1 cup of curd, you need to add 2 or 4 or 6 cups of water. This plain chaas recipe is only flavored with salt and/or black salt. Basic buttermilk recipe can be flavored with coriander, ginger juice, green chili, asafetida, black salt, black pepper and roasted cumin powder. Most home cooks have their own favorite flavors of buttermilk based on the region.

Yogurt or curd is the main key player of buttermilk recipe. It is usually served along with lunch especially during the hot summer months. This salted yogurt drink has many health benefits which include cooling the body and good digestion.

Chaas Recipe
Ingredients
§  Curd - 1 cup, thick and beaten smooth
§  Water - 6 cups
§  Salt - 1/2 tsp
§  Black salt - 3/4 tsp
§  Coriander leaves - 2 tsp (finely chopped)
Method
1.     In a bowl, beat the thick curd with a wooden churner or hand blender. Add water and mix well.
2.     Add black salt and salt and mix well. Pour into tall glasses, garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve.
Tips
§  If you do not have black salt on hand, omit it.
§  You can garnish with fresh mint leaves also.
